Wellness for Social Justice Series
Our wellness and social justice initiative intersects social justice with wellness and mental health. All programs provide our students tools, resources, and events that allow them to decompress as well as further learn what social justice is and how they can become advocates for themselves as well as other marginalized communities.
Programs Include:
Wellness for Social Justice: Hosted by the Cross-Cultural Center, this program is offered once a month and planned by our very own Student Program Coordinators. The event provides opportunities for students to relax, build community, and learn more about the CCC’s programs. Each month has a different theme focused around social justice. These events feature music, interactive activities, and snacks in a relaxed atmosphere.
Mindfulness Meditation: In partnership with faculty, the Cross-Cultural Center hosts a weekly meditation that focuses on mindfulness for your own well-being. During our signature program weeks, meditations are themed to coincide with social justice topics. Facilitated by faculty, this space is open to all community members needing a moment to decompress and practice mindfulness to improve their own health.
Cultural Empowerment & Leadership Development Summit (CELD): Hosted by the Cross-Cultural Center & Counseling Center, this day-long summit, focuses on becoming leaders and overcoming barriers as student activists. Past sessions have focused on topics including intergroup dialogue, climate activism, intersectionality, as well as healing and self-care. Most sessions are facilitated by students from various departments at UCI. Light breakfast, keynote address, lunch, and a participation certificate are provided to all participants. This summit is usually held in early Spring quarter.
