UCI Cross-Cultural Center

MLK Jr. Symposium 2021

Welcome

Thank you for joining us virtually for this year's Martin Luther King Jr. Symposium. A longstanding UCI tradition and one of our center's signature programs, we are pleased to host this important and hxstoric program virtually in light of the pandemic and recent disturbing acts of violence and domestic terrorism in Washington, D.C.

On January 18-22, the symposium will consist of several workshops, virtual film screening, the annual Dr. Joseph L. White Lecture featuring artist and activist Bree Newsome Bass, and opportunities to participate in community boards. We invite you to watch a short welcome video message and explore this website to learn more about the various program offerings.

During this week and beyond, we encourage you to reflect on Dr. King's legacy of activism and think about the ways in which you can commit to dismantling anti-Blackness and engage in solidarity work to achieve racial justice.

Please prioritize your mental health during this difficult time as we heal. We encourage students to seek mental health resources and services from the UCI Counseling Center. More information can be found on their website here.
