Affiliation Process
The Cross-Cultural Center’s affiliation process is for Registered Campus Organizations (RCOs) interested in getting more involved with us and whose mission aligns with our six values: Activism, Social Justice, Community + Belonging, Education, Empowerment, and Diversity, Equity, + Inclusion.
In order to affiliate with the Cross-Cultural Center and remain in good standing, your RCO must follow these nine (9) steps:
1. Re-register.
Re-register with the Office of Campus Organizations & Volunteer Programs and pay the registration fee. This is not automatic even if your organization was recognized as an RCO during the past academic year. For questions about the re-registration process, please contact the Office of Campus Organizations & Volunteer Programs at (949) 824-5181.
2. Learn about our center’s hxstory and values.
Review our center’s rich hxstory to familiarize your organization with our mission and values here. Your RCO’s values should align with our center.
3. Complete the online application to affiliate with us.
All Registered Campus Organizations (even those who were affiliated with our center last year) must apply as it is not automatic. The deadline to apply was Friday, October 4, 2024 at noon. Note that we do not accept requests to affiliate with us after the deadline due to the number of requirements we have in place. For RCOs interested in affiliating with our center after Friday of Week 1 (fall quarter), your org will need to wait until September 2025.
4. Review and understand the perks of affiliating with us and your organization’s responsibilities.
Review our center’s affiliation requirements in its entirety. Share this information with your organization’s leadership team and members so they can utilize our resources. This information will appear in the CampusGroups form, which will go live in late August/early September.
5. Attend quarterly affiliates meetings.
Your organization must attend quarterly affiliates meetings. Quarterly affiliates meetings generally take place via Zoom on Friday of Week 2 (Week 3 for fall quarter) for about 50 minutes. These meetings are mandatory and are facilitated by professional and/or student staff. Each RCO must send at least one board member to these meetings. Meeting details will be communicated in The Affiliate Alert to all affiliates.
6. Participate in the Empower Leadership Summit.
Your organization is required to send a minimum of 2 board members to the Empower Leadership Summit in the fall. This half-day leadership summit is designed to create a sense of community for student leaders from our affiliates. Interactive workshops focused on social justice, roundtable discussions on topics integral to leadership and organizational planning, and team-building activities are highlights of this annual summit. The date and time will be shared at the fall affiliates meeting.
7. Support our center’s signature programs.
Your organization is required to participate in an engagement project that supports our center’s signature programs (Community Roots Festival, Martin Luther King Jr. Symposium, and Deconstruction Zone). More information will be shared during the quarterly affiliates meetings and via The Affiliate Alert, a weekly e-newsletter for student leaders.
8. Actively engage with other affiliates.
Your RCO’s affiliation with the Cross-Cultural Center requires active engagement. Therefore, all affiliates will be required to co-facilitate a social justice program of their choice with another affiliate during winter and spring quarters. More details will be shared in the fall at the Empower Leadership Summit.
9. Adhere to our policies regarding our room reservation process and facilities.
Your organization is asked to assist in adhering to our polices to ensure that the facility continues to be our “home.” Please make sure that our facilities are well-maintained and can be shared by all members of our community.
